Toronto, ON (Nov 12) – it was a packed night, and a packed house for the evening Royal horse show at the 2014 Royal Winter Fair. Starting of with the Belgian 6 horse hitch class, the Ricoh was treated to some serious horsepower as these massive beauties strutted there stuff around the ring. Also featured was the Single Road horse to bike championship and Single harness pony open. Guy McLean also made an appearance, wowing crowds with his impressive horsemanship skills and quick wit.

The centerpiece of the night was the $100,000 Hickstead FEI World Cup Grand Prix, created in honour of Eric Lamaze’s great little horse Hickstead who passed suddenly 4 years ago. This was the 3 annual hosting of the cup. The course was designed by Guilherme Jorge (BRA), and looked tough, with 77 seconds to complete. After the first three riders went clear, it looked to be a tough night of equestrian competition. Nine riders made it into the jump off, and times where tight as they battled for top honours in this year’s competition. Ultimately, McLain Ward, aboard Rothchild, soared to victory with an impressive time of 37.0 time in the jump off.
